We've been teasing this for a while, and it's finally real: you can now text your Threwline coach at +1 (512) 737-7110 from any US mobile number. No app, no signup form, no card. Just text START to that number and your coach kicks off a quick intake right in your messages.

This is a big moment for the product because SMS was the original vision. The pitch from day one was "coaching that lives in your messages" — not in an app you open twice before forgetting it exists. Telegram worked as a bridge while we got our 10DLC registration approved, but text is the channel most people actually live in. It's where your friends, your family, and your calendar notifications already are. Putting your coach in the same thread means logging a meal takes the same effort as replying to anyone else.

How to start

Text START to +1 (512) 737-7110 from the phone you want your coach to message. That's it. Your coach replies within a few seconds, asks for your name, and walks through a short intake that collects the basics (age, height, weight, activity level, goal). By the end of intake — usually five minutes of texting — you have your personalized macro targets and you're ready to start logging.

If you already have a Threwline account through the web, you can text the same number and your coach will recognize you. If you prefer Telegram, that channel still works — the coach is the same underneath.

Why SMS matters for this kind of product

Apps have a retention problem. Even well-designed fitness apps lose around 90 percent of their users within the first month. The culprit isn't the app itself; it's the friction of opening it. When you have to launch an app, navigate to the right screen, and enter structured data every time you eat, you skip it on busy days — which are the days when tracking matters most.

SMS has no such friction. You pull up the thread you're already on, type what you ate, and hit send. Everything gets logged, your macros update, and your coach keeps the running picture of your day. The act of tracking stops being a chore and becomes something you do without thinking about it.

That's the whole product thesis. A coach that remembers everything, responds in natural language, and lives in a channel you already use. SMS is the last piece of that.

What stays the same

All the features you'd expect — food shortcuts, USDA lookups, weight logging, workout notes, the web dashboard — work identically whether you text over SMS or Telegram. Your data syncs across channels. You can log on SMS during the day and review charts on your phone browser at night. The dashboard auto-logs you in via magic link: text LOGIN to your coach and you'll get a tap-to-open link right back.
